Philippine e-passport coming soon
Accorinding to a, if there is a document that would identify a Filipino abroad, that document would be a passport. Today’s Philippine e-Passport does not only bear the identity of its holder, it is also a product of a sustained effort by the Philippine Government to provide the Filipino people with a modern, secure and world-class travel document.
The modernization of the Philippines’ passport system took several years. From a manually-scripted travel document with the photo physically attached on the personal data page of the holder, the Philippine passport was upgraded to the machine readable passport (MRP) in September 2007, in compliance with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The MRP was the precursor of the Philippine electronic passport, which was officially launched on 11 August 2009 by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The e-Passport was positively received by the general public because it facilitated admission to ports of entry for Filipinos around the world. In addition, the new features of the e-Passport greatly enhanced the security and integrity of travel documents issued to Filipinos.
