PHL team bags bronze, excellence awards in ASEAN Skills Competition

MANILA, Dec. 1 (PNA) — The Philippine team took home a bronze medal and four medallions of excellence in its re-entry in the recently-concluded ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) in Indonesia.

The 16 Filipino delegates, who competed in 10 trade areas during the week-long event, earlier trained in various qualifications under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

“This is a feat for our skilled Filipino workers considering that we are like making a debut to the competition after years of absence,” Secretary Joel Villanueva, TESDA Director General said.

“After this relatively strong start, we will achieve a golden finish in the coming skills competition,” he added.

For the past seven years, the country did not field an entry into the contest until Villanueva’s stint, which recognized anew the value of exposing the Filipino technical vocational experts in the international arena. [full story…]
