SANAA, March 22 (PNA/Xinhua) — Armed tribesmen have kidnapped three Filipino sailors in eastern Yemen, demanding the release of their jailed relatives in exchange for the sailors, Yemen’s Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

“A group of armed tribesmen belonging to Bani Jabr tribe in the eastern province of Marib abducted three Filipino sailors when they were heading for Nashton port in neighboring al-Mahra province, off the Arab Sea,” the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

“The kidnappers are demanding their fellow tribesman be released from a police prison in the capital Sanaa in return for the Filipinos’ release,” it added.

An official with the interior ministry told Xinhua anonymously that the three Filipino sailors work at Navigational Nour Company and they were kidnapped three days ago on their way to Nashton port to join their company’s team on a merchant ship to sail to the Gulf of Aden. [full story…]
